On the 16th July:

1976

A visit to Frampton Lakes, where we saw 2 Spotted Flycatchers with 2 juveniles, Great Spotted and Green Woodpeckers, a Nuthatch, 2 Treecreepers, 5 Kingfishers, 3 Grey Herons, a Ruddy Duck, lots of Bullfinches, 9 Green Sandpipers, 8 Greenshank and a Little Gull.

By the river, there were c100 Curlew, 200+ Shelduck, 2 Greenshank, 2 Redshank, a Common Sandpiper and a Turtle Dove.

1977

Overnight in Lerwick, kindly put up by the manager of the Salvation Army mission in his flat.

In the morning we spent a couple of hours at 'Horse of the Knabb' before catching the ferry back to Aberdeen. Here we saw 30+ Black Guillemots, 10+ Puffins, 20+ Fulmars, 14 Eiders with 5 juveniles, 2 Redpolls and a Redshank.

Later, we boarded the ferry and between Lerwick and Fair Isle saw masses of Puffins and Guillemots, lots of Fulmars and Razorbills, terns, 17 Great Skuas, 4 Arctic Skuas, 3 Gannets, 5 Manx Shearwaters and about 60 Storm Petrels, a new bird for us.

1978

A visit to Steart, where on a walk to the hides we saw c20 Reed Warblers, a Sedge Warbler, a Chiffchaff, 8 Yellow Wagtails, 16 Grey Herons, 3 Grey Partridges with 8 chicks, 3 Greenshank, a Whimbrel, lots of Curlew and Redshank, c150 Dunlin, a few Ringed Plovers, 2 Wheatears, 2 Turtle Doves and a Fox.

1983

Today we, Laurel and I, did a 12 hour bird club tally hunt with Peter Knight, travelling from Bristol to Weymouth, Portland, Chew Valley Lake, Peterson Pill and ending in the Forest of Dean. We came 3rd with 100 species recorded, highlights were Puffin at Portland, Barn Owl at CVL, Tree Sparrow and Whimbrel at Peterstone Pill and Redstart, Nightjar and Woodcock in the Forest of Dean.

1997

On a sound recording trip to the Picos de Europa Mountains in Northwest Spain.

2006

At Severn Beach today there were 2 male Common Scoters.

2013

A visit to Ham Wall on the Somerset Levels, where eventually I saw 2 male Little Bitterns, also 2 Bitterns and a Hobby.
