On the 17th August:

1975

A day out in North Somerset, starting at Barrow Tanks/Reservoirs where we saw 2 Greenshank, 18 Common Sandpipers, a Common Tern, 4 Ringed Plovers, 3 Treecreepers and a Redpoll. Then we travelled to Cheddar Reservoir seeing 17 Common Sandpipers, a Greenshank, a male Garganey and  a Red-crested Pochard, a new bird for us.

From there we went to Steart where there were 4 Wheatears, c180 Redshank, 200+ Curlew, c30 Whimbrels, 33 Golden Plovers, c1500 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 Bar-tailed Godwits, 8 Greenshank, c140 Grey Plovers, 20+ Ringed Plovers, 6 Spotted Redshank, 2 Sandwich Terns, 7 Yellow Wagtails, 9 Grey Partridges and a Grass Snake. On the way back we called in at Durleigh Reservoir seeing 24 Black Terns, 17 Common and 7 Green Sandpipers, a Wood Sandpiper, 2 Greenshank, 15 Little Grebes, 3 Ruddy Ducks and a Kingfisher.

1980

A return to Chew Valley Lake where we saw much the same as yesterday, including the  Ring-necked Duck, extra were a Little Gull, a Curlew Sandpiper, a Wheatear, a Goosander, a Goldeneye and a Black Tern.

From there we went to Cheddar Reservoir where there were 5 Common Sandpipers, 3 Dunlin, 7 Ruff, a Black Tern and another Ring-necked Duck, this time a female.
