On the 10th September:

1975

It was 1am and we were in Marazion Marsh Car Park where we saw our first Great Green Grasshopper, they are big. We had just heard the news that a Greater Yellowlegs had been found in Norfolk, so we decided to go, driving the rest of the night and the following morning, we eventually arrived at Breydon Water near Great Yarmouth.

From the railway bank by the A47 we could see the Greater Yellowlegs feeding on the mud about 70 yards away, later it was seen down to 25-30 yards as the tide pushed it closer. Also there, were lots of Greenshank and Dunlin, Curlew Sandpipers, Ringed Plovers, Oystercatchers and a Kingfisher.

1978

A trip to Steart where we saw lots of Dunlin, Ringed Plovers, Redshank, Curlew, 12 Spotted Redshank, 4 Knot, 6 Black-tailed Godwits, 33 Curlew Sandpipers, 11 Little Stints, an Avocet, 6 Bar-tailed Godwits, 2 Ruff, a Turnstone, a Peregrine, a Wheatear and 2 Manx Shearwaters.

Later, we returned home via Chew Valley Lake seeing the 2 White-winged Black Terns again and c10 Black Terns.

1981

On a recce tour of Spain, 1 new bird and a new mammal seen today.

1983

Leading a Wingspan Tour to Western Turkey.

1993

On a birding trip to Spain.

1998

On a filming and sound recording trip to Zimbabwe, 8 new birds seen today.

2006

A visit to Channel View Bay and a walk to the River Yeo, seeing c100 Dunlin and Ringed Plovers, a Sanderling, a Knot, a flock of c50 Bar-tailed Godwits flying down stream, c50 Curlew and 18 Little Egrets.

2013

A visit to Northwick Warth seeing c40 Redshank, a few Curlew, a White Wagtail, 2 Yellow Wagtails, a Whinchat and 2 Wheatears.

2014

In the garden, in Portishead, there was a Jay, Chiffchaff and a Spotted Flycatcher. Then a visit to Chew Valley Lake to see a juvenile White-winged Black Tern, also seeing lots of duck including 5 Ruddy Ducks, 2 Little Egrets, a juvenile Marsh Harrier and watched a Hobby hunting and catching dragonflies over a reed-bed.
