On the 29th February:

1976

A visit to the lakes and pools near Somerford Keynes and South Cerney, which were to become the Cotswold Water Park.

Although we saw plenty of ducks, grebes and Coot there was nothing out of the ordinary, the best were 13 Goldeneyes at South Cerney.

From there we went to a woodland area north of Eastleach, more an area of thickets, where we saw a roosting Long-eared Owl and 2 Tawny Owls.

There had been several Long-eared Owls reported from here, but they are difficult to spot, so there could have been more.

We also saw around 50 Tree Sparrows, 2 Sparrowhawks, a Grey Partridge, a Yellowhammer and lots of Chaffinches.
