A day spent at Chew Valley Lake where there were 34 Wigeon, 23 Goosander, a female Long-tailed Duck, a female Smew, 14 Goldeneye, around 230 Ruddy Ducks, plus other ducks including 4 Shelducks. We also saw a 2nd summer Mediterranean Gull, 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 6 Chiffchaffs, 3 Treecreepers, 3 Water Rails, 12 Redwings, 61 Fieldfares and 8 Goldcrests.

One of the Goldcrests was giving some unusual calls, our attention was drawn by a Chiffchaff-like 'wheet', it also gave a Blackbird-like alarm call 'pink pink', a tit-like 'ptsieu' and a Robin-like warble all mixed in with a certain amount of Goldcrest song, eventually it began to sing a regular Goldcrest song.
