On the 1st January:

1976

A great day at Slimbridge with a new British bird, an immature Lesser White-fronted Goose in amongst the 1000+ White-fronted Geese. Also seen were around 150 Bewick's Swans and 500+ Wigeon.

1978

In Corsica, in an area called Desert des Agriates, where we saw two new birds, a flock of about 40 Citril now called Corsican Finches, and 4 Marmora's Warblers.

1985

A visit to Slimbridge where there were 2000 White-fronted Geese, about 50 Bewick's Swans and 8000 Wigeon, and, with only 10 Dunlin were 5 Little Stints. Then a drive to near Cinderford, to Flaxley Pond, where there was a stunning male Ring-necked Duck.

1988

A great start to the year, with a new British bird, a Little Bustard, in fields near Ripley north of Christchurch, Dorset. It was an awful day, raining and windy, but eventually the bird showed in the long grass, seeing only its head and neck, and then it took off giving excellent flight views.

2019

Most of the day spent at Slimbridge, where the highlights were 60+ Bewick's Swans, Lapwing flocks of over 2,000 birds, Golden Plover flocks of around 800 birds, 20+ Ruff, 60+ Black-tailed Godwits, 500+ Wigeon, 7 Cranes, 60+ White-fronted Geese, a juvenile female Peregrine which was sat on the ground for ages and a brief, but clear view of a Water Rail.

Then I went to Frampton Court Lake seeing 2 Little Egrets, 2 Great White Egrets and about 10 Fieldfares.
