On the 1st July:

1978

An early morning drive to Walberswick, Suffolk, to see a 2nd summer male Red-footed Falcon, a new bird for us.

Also seen were 2 Whitethroats, Yellowhammers, Redpolls and Turtle Doves.

1979

A visit to Chew Valley Lake, mainly to the Twycross area, seeing the long staying Marsh Warbler again, lots of Reed Warblers, 2 Sedge Warblers, 2 Garden Warblers, 10+ Willow Warblers, a Chiffchaff and 2 Spotted Flycatchers.

1981

An overnight drive to Landguard Point in Suffolk to see a 1st summer male Lark Sparrow, a 1st British record and a new bird for us. The bird was on show the whole time we were there as did a male Black Redstart.

Later we went to Minsmere seeing a Caspian Tern, 13 Little Terns, 20 Sandwich Terns, 35 Common Terns, a male Marsh Harrier, a Ruff, a Spotted Redshank, 5 Black-tailed Godwits and hearing 3 Grasshopper Warblers. From there to Santon Downham where there was a male Red-backed Shrike, then to Wheeting where we only saw one Stone Curlew but 10 Wheatears. Finally, to Lakenheath where we heard but failed to see 3 Golden Orioles.

1984

A trip to the Forest of Dean where we saw 4 Redstarts, a Hawfinch, only hearing Pied Flycatcher and Wood Warbler, and, later seeing 2 Nightjars, 2 Woodcocks and 2 Noctule Bats.

1985

Leading a birdwatching holiday to Northern Spain.

2018

Red Kite seen over fields by A46 at the Bowldown Road junction.
