On the 9th August:

1975

The day started at Chew Valley Lake where we saw a Barn Owl, lots of warblers including 4 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Yellow Wagtails, a Kingfisher, a Little Ringed Plover, 6 Common Sandpipers, 11 Greenshank, a Green Sandpiper, 3 Wood Sandpipers, a Little Gull, 3 Black Terns and a White-winged Black Tern, a new bird for us.

Then we drove south visiting Sutton Bingham Reservoir where there was a Wood Sandpiper,  7 Common and 2 Green Sandpipers, 4 Greenshank, a Ruff, a Black Tern and a Little Ringed Plover.

From there we drove to Portland, where in the Observatory garden we saw an Icterine Warbler, another new bird for us.

We also saw lots of Yellow Wagtails and on the sea 12 Gannets, 5 Kittiwakes and a Fulmar. We stayed overnight on Portland.

1980

A visit to Cheddar Reservoir where there were 21 Common Sandpipers, 2 Dunlin, 2 Greenshank and 12 Yellow Wagtails. From there we went to Steart seeing 17 Whimbrel, 268 Black-tailed Godwits, 27 Grey Plover, 105 Redshank, 100's of Curlew, c40 Spotted Redshank, 5 Greenshank, a Green and 8 Common Sandpipers, 250+ Dunlin and Ringed Plovers, a Curlew Sandpiper, an Avocet, c45 Oystercatchers, 3 Bar-tailed Godwits, a Wheatear and a Peregrine.

1981

A day at Chew Valley Lake seeing 16 Common and 5 Green Sandpipers, 2 Ruff, 4 Snipe, a Greenshank, a Little Gull, 10 Black Terns, 12 Ruddy Ducks, 2 Goosanders, a Goldeneye, a Spotted Flycatcher, lots of warblers especially Willow Warblers and a possible Melodious Warbler.

1988

An evening visit to Abbots Pool near Leigh Woods where I heard 4 Tawny Owls and saw 4 Noctule Bats, 6 Pipistrelle Bats, a Lesser Horseshoe Bat and around 20 Daubenton's Bats.
