On the 21st December:
1974
A day spent at Steart where there were 3 Merlins, we watched two of them chasing a Skylark which one of them caught in the air. Also seen were 2 Peregrines, a Kestrel, a male Hen Harrier, c6000 Dunlin, 60 Redshank, 30 Oystercatchers, 50 Shelduck, 10 Wigeon, 12 Teal, c200 Curlew, 20 Bar-tailed Godwits, 8 Knot, 6 Ringed Plovers, c3000 Lapwing and a Weasel.
1975
A visit to Chew Valley Lake where there were the usual birds, of note were 1000+ Lapwing and c225 Dunlin, also good numbers of duck with c1000 Teal and a male and a female Smew.
1980
A visit to Chew Valley Lake where of note were 4 Bewick's Swans, 9 Goldeneyes, 30 Goosanders, c75 Dunlin and a Green Sandpiper. Later, at Stock Hill on the Mendips there were 16 Siskins, 2 Marsh Tits, 28 Redpolls, 4 Treecreepers and 59 Bramblings.
