On the 23rd August:

1975

A drive to Manor Park Sewage Farm to see a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper, but it had gone! We did see lots of Turtle Doves, a Kingfisher, c60 Sand Martins, a Common and 5 Green Sandpipers, 2 Greenshank, a Ruff, 3 Little Ringed Plovers and 4 Garganey.

We continued to Minsmere where we saw 10 Curlew Sandpipers and a Red-necked Phalarope, both new species for us. Also seeing 3 Sanderling, 4 Little Stints, 5 Common and 2 Green Sandpipers, a Black Tern, 6 Avocets, c20 Ruff, 10+ Spotted Redshank, 15 Redshank, c60 Dunlin, c50 Ringed Plovers, a Greenshank, a Kingfisher, 2 Garganey, 3 Marsh Harriers and a Coypu. Overnight near Minsmere.

1980

A day out around Somerset, starting at Chew Valley Lake where there were 2 Common and 6 Green Sandpipers, a Peregrine, 52 Ringed Plovers, 11 Dunlin, a Little Stint, 8 Spotted Redshank, 2 Greenshank, 3 Ruff, 4 Common Terns, a Kingfisher and a Garganey.

From there we went to Cheddar Reservoir seeing 2 Common Sandpipers, 16 Ringed Plovers, 6 Dunlin, 4 Snipe, 2 Ruff, a Little Ringed Plover and a Spotted Redshank.Then we went to Fry's Hill which overlooks the reservoir on the western side, where we saw 5 Cirl Buntings - a pair with 3 immatures.

Then west to Steart seeing 12 Wheatears, 46 Yellow Wagtails, 2 Chilean Flamingoes, a Ruff, 83 Curlew, a Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Black-tailed Godwits, a Knot, 800+ Dunlin and Ringed Plovers, an Avocet, c60 Oystercatchers, c20 Sanderling, 2 Greenshank, Redshanks, a Spotted Redshank, 300+ Shelducks and a Merlin.

1984

An evening visit to Chew Valley Lake seeing 11 Greenshank, 3 Common and 2 Green Sandpipers, a Wood Sandpiper, 3 Ruff, 5 Black-tailed Godwits, 14 Snipe, c20 Ringed Plovers and 3 Yellow Wagtails.

1997

A visit to Chew Valley Lake with Tim Cleeves, who was visiting from the north, the most notable birds seen were 2 Hobbies and a female Red-crested Pochard.
