
On the 28th December:
1976
A return to Slimbridge, this time seeing c2000 White-fronted Geese and picking out what looked like an immature Lesser White-fronted Goose, certainly not the adult seen yesterday which we couldn't find today. Also seen were 500+ Bewick's Swans, 30+ Curlew, 1500+ Wigeon and good numbers of other ducks.
1977
On holiday in Corsica, 2 new birds seen today.
1979
In Irvine hoping to see a Barrow's Goldeneye, but it didn't show, even though we searched through the 50+ Goldeneyes several times. Also seen were 100+ Eider, 3 Long-tailed Ducks, 100+ Wigeon, 4 Scaup, a Tufted Duck, 9 Red-breasted Mergansers, several species of waders, 20 Whooper Swans and 50+ Twite. Later, we went to Johnstone Reservoir in Paisley seeing lots of duck, a Whooper Swan and an immature male Black Duck.
1980
A trip to Stackpole in Pembrokeshire where there was a Cattle Egret, a new British bird for us.
Then we went to nearby Bosherston Lily Ponds where, of note, we saw a Peregrine, 3 Marsh Tits, 10 Water Rails, a Kingfisher, 3 Chiffchaffs, a Firecrest, 2 Ravens and we saw the Cattle Egret fly over going to roost.
Later, at Bosherston Beach and cliffs there were 5 Gannets, 25 Fulmars, another Peregrine and 2 Chough.

On holiday in California, no new birds seen today.
1986
1987
A visit to Chew Valley Lake where there were lots of duck, including 20 Goosanders, a Smew and a male Red-breasted Merganser, also a Yellow-legged Gull.
1996
A visit to Chew Valley Lake with John Rossetti, lots of duck including c700 Ruddy Duck, c100 Goosander, 2 Smew and 3 Bewick's Swans. Then to Cheddar Reservoir where there were more duck and a Snow Bunting.
