On the 27th April:

1977

A return to Leigh Woods to check on the Hawfinch pair, the female was seen flying from the Hawthorn tree, later both birds were seen in the vicinity of the nest, both calling continuously and seemed oblivious to our presence. The male was seen to touch the females bill - part of a display? They then flew to higher branches for 3-4 minutes before flying off.

1980

A walk along the trail at Black Rock at the top of Cheddar Gorge, seeing 2 Marsh Tits, 11 Willow Warblers, 3 Chiffchaffs, a male Redstart, a Whitethroat, a Blackcap and 2 Green Woodpeckers. At Chew Valley Lake we saw the long staying female Smew, 5 Common Sandpipers and a Dunlin.

1984

Leading a Wingspan/Ibis Bird Tour to Spain. 

1985

In Tunisia, one new bird seen today.

1988

In Florida on a sound recording trip, 1 new bird and 1 new reptile seen today.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tricolored Heron. 

1997

A visit to Chew Valley Lake where there was a Wheatear, 5 Buzzards, 50+ Swallows and House Martins, c12 Swifts, a Common Sandpiper, 2 1st summer Little Gulls and 8 Whimbrel.

2003

A couple of hours at Battery Point, at high tide, produced 3 Purple Sandpipers on the rocks, a Whimbrel and a Common Tern flying north.
