On the 29th December:

1977

On holiday in Corsica, no new birds seen today.

1979

Still in Irvine, we tried to see the Barrow's goldeneye again, but it had obviously gone, we saw much the same as yesterday, plus a Red-throated Diver. Then we drove south into Galloway Forest, on the way seeing 22 Whooper Swans and 150+ Greylag Geese. We arrived at Murray's Monument where there was heavy mist, only clearing for short intervals, which meant there was no chance of seeing eagles.

1986

On holiday in California, no new birds seen today.

1996

A drive to Oldbury Power Station with John Rossetti, where in the bushes along the perimeter fence were 6 Long-eared Owls.

2016

A drive to Stow-on-the Wold where there was a male Blue Rock Thrush, a new British bird for me. It was seen on various roofs  on the edge of the town, moving around a lot and disappearing for long periods.
