
On the 23rd October:
1976
A day on St. Mary's, starting at the Golf Course seeing a Golden Plover, 6 Snipe, a Ruff and a Dotterel. Then to Holy Vale where we again had brief, but good views of the Blackpoll Warbler, also seeing a Spotted Flycatcher, 12 Chiffchaffs, the Rose-breasted Grosbeak again, 4 Water Rails and a Red-breasted Flycatcher, a new bird for us.
From there we went to Salakee where there was a Merlin, 4 Blackcaps, c40 Linnets, c20 Greenfinches and a Scarlet or Common Rosefinch, another new bird for us.
Then to Porthelick where we saw a Spotted Redshank, 3 Greenshank, 7 Snipe, a Redshank, a Whimbrel, an Osprey, a Whinchat, 5 Redwing, a Ring Ouzel and 2 Reed Warblers. Finally, we went to Holy Vale seeing a Firecrest and the Grey-cheeked Thrush again.

1977
Overnight at Cley, in the morning we went to Weybourne where we saw c30 Snow Buntings, 8 Lapland Buntings, 6 Bearded Tits,
2 Richard's Pipits and a Short-eared Owl.
1982
A day on Portland seeing a few warblers, the usual seabirds including 2 Puffins, 8 Common Scoter and a Great Skua. Also 21 Corn Buntings, 150+ Linnets, 2 Wheatears, a Whinchat, 4 Stonechats, 2 Little Owls, a Short-eared Owl, a Merlin, a Hobby, 11 Purple Sandpipers and lots of migrant Red Admirals.
1983
Overnight on Portland, in the morning a sea-watch between 7-8am, seeing 9 Guillemots, 36+ Kittiwakes, a Pomarine Skua, 3 Common Scoter, 2 Velvet Scoter and 3 Razorbills. Around the 'bill' there was an increase in birds with 120+ Swallows, 22 House Martins, 15 Goldcrests, 4 Black Redstarts, 9 Firecrests, 5 Stonechats, still the one Wheatear and there were 2 Little Owls in the Obs. Quarry, and, we saw 4 Clouded Yellow Butterflies.
1984
In Cornwall, at St. Ives, in a very strong northwesterly wind for an all day sea-watch, during this time we saw 970+ Kittiwakes, lots of Guillemots, 5 Purple Sandpipers, lots of Shags, 440+ Razorbills, a Puffin, a Little Auk, a Balearic Shearwater, 3 Gannets, a Great Skua, 6 Common Scoter, a Great Northern Diver, a Black-throated Diver, also seeing lots of Meadow Pipits flying through and a Black Redstart.
1987
In Virginia on a BBC sound recording trip, no new birds seen today.
