On the 11th June:

1976

An evening visit to Marshfield seeing several Corn Buntings and Yellowhammers, a Turtle Dove, a Grey Partridge, but not hearing any Quails. Then to Ingelston Common where we heard 2 Nightingales and a Tawny Owl, also seeing a Glow Worm.

1978

An overnight drive to Kent, at Dungeness a seawatch produced lots of gulls, lots of Common Terns, a Little Gull, 2 Sandwich Terns and 2 Roseate Terns, it was quite around the bushes with the best being a Wheatear, a Lesser Whitethroat and a Cuckoo. Then we drove along the coast to Rye, where there were lots more Common Terns and a Black-winged Stilt, a new bird for us.

From there to Stodmarsh where we saw at least 5 Cetti's Warblers, 2 Marsh Harriers, 3 Kestrels, a Nightingale, a female Garganey, a male Blue-winged Teal, 3+ Cuckoos, 3 Turtle Doves, lots of Reed and Sedge Warblers, Bearded Tits, Redpolls and Tree Sparrows.

1984

In Arizona leading an Ibis Tours group, 1 new bird and 1 new mammal seen today.

1988

A trip to Skomer with the highlights being lots of Puffins and Guillemots, quite a few Razorbills, Kittiwakes, Fulmars and Gannets, 4 Ravens, 4 Chough, a Peregrine, 2 Spotted Flycatchersand 4 Wheatears.

1989

In Colorado on a sound recording trip for the BBC series 'Land of the Eagle'. 2 new birds and 1 new mammal seen today.

In Kazakhstan on a Sound Recording trip for the BBC series 'Realms of the Russian Bear'.

1997

In northwest Spain on a sound recording trip to the Picos de Europa mountains, 1 new mammal seen today.

2016

A trip to Portland with Roy Smith, we had come to see a Great Spotted Cuckoo, but it was the first day it hadn't been seen! However, we did see 6 Ravens, 100+ Guillemots, 2 Fulmars, 20+ Razorbills, a few Shags and 2 Little Owls in the Obs quarry. Later, we called in at Ferrybridge where the best were 4 Little Terns, then a look at Radipole Lake where we saw at least 4 Cetti's Warblers with 6 juveniles,

6+ Bearded Tits and the long staying male Hooded Merganser.

2017

A drive north to Cranham Common, east of Gloucester, where there was a Hoopoe, which eventually showed itself well. Also, there were lots of Swifts, 2 Mistle Thrushes and a Buzzard.

2019

A day out around the Ullapool area with Andy Williams, starting at Loch Kinellen which is like a public park, as we walked to the viewing area a summer plumage Slavonian Grebe appeared close in, also on the lake were c10 Little Grebes and overhead a Red Kite and 3 Swifts.

At Loch Achilty there was another Red Kite and we stopped at Loch Luichart where there was a pair of Ospreys with their nest on top of a pylon. We continued to Loch Achanalt where there were lots of Siskins and Swallows, a Greenshank, 2 Redshank, 2 Wood Sandpipers, a Common Sandpiper, 2 Wigeon, a Black-throated Diver, Mallard, 4 Tufted Ducks, a Cuckoo, Common Gulls and a Buzzard.

On the way back we stopped at Little Grave Bridge seeing a Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Crossbills, 2 Grey Wagtails and lots of Siskins.

Later, an evening drive to Rhue from where we could see lots of gulls around a distant fishing boat which were joined by 2 Great Skuas, on the headland there were lots of finches including at least 2 Twite, and, in the bay a Black Guillemot.
