
On the 24th October:
1976
The day started on St. Mary's at Porthcressa beach seeing a Redstart, a Black Redstart, 2 Wheatears, a Spotted Flycatcher, Ringed Plovers and Sanderling, and, the Spotted Sandpiper.
The rest of the day was spent on Tresco, where we saw 13 Chiffchaffs, 3 Bullfinches, 6 Blackcaps, 8 Firecrests, 8 Goldcrests, a Water Rail, a Redstart, a Black Redstart, lots of Pheasants, 3 male and 4 female Golden Pheasants and 3 Peacocks.
1982
An overnight drive to Cornwall, to Porthgwarra, where there were 2 Chimney Swifts, new British birds for us.
Also seen were 2 Ravens, a Firecrest, a Black Redstart, 12 Chiffchaffs, 2 Blackcaps, 2 Grey Wagtails, 2 Kestrels, 5 Sparrowhawks, a Merlin and a Short-eared Owl.
On the way back we stopped at a creek near Newquay seeing 300+ Curlew, 3 Redshank, a Jack Snipe and a Lesser Yellowlegs.

1983
Overnight on Portland, in the morning a sea-watch between 7-8am seeing the usual seabirds, an adult Mediterranean Gull and a Purple Sandpiper. Then we went to Pennsylvania Castle where we saw 2 Treecreepers, 45+ Goldcrests, 4 Firecrests, 25 Chaffinches, 6 Siskins, c60 Linnets and 3 Chiffchaffs. We returned to the 'bill' where there was an immature Little Gull, a Red-necked Grebe and a Common Scoter. On the way home we called in at Lodmoor where there was a Shore Lark.
1987
In North Carolina on a BBC sound recording trip, 2 new birds and 2 new reptiles seen today.

Common Cranes.

2003
A drive into Bristol, to Durham Downs where in the woodland at the top of the gorge was a Yellow-browed Warbler. Later, a visit to Portbury Wharf seeing a Merlin, a Little Egret and a Jack Snipe.
