On the 26th November:

1978

A visit to Cheddar Reservoir where there were lots of ducks and Coots, 15 Bewick's Swans and a Black Redstart. Then to Berrow where on the beach were c1500 Dunlin, 40 Oystercatchers, 9 Bar-tailed Godwits and 15 Curlews, at the top of the beach, around the dunes, we saw at least 2 Stonechats and with the Pied Wagtails a Shore Lark.

1983

A day at Chew Valley Lake where from the picnic area we saw an immature female Lanner sat in a tree on Denys Island. It was being mobbed by 2 Crows which made it fly several times, presumably a falconers bird.

Around the lake were good numbers of ducks and along the south side c60 Bramblings. 10 Reed Buntings with the flock of around 120 Chaffinches.

1988

In Madagascar on a BBC sound recording trip, no new birds seen today.

1993

In Australia, on a BBC sound recording trip, 26 new birds seen today.

1994

A drive to Dawlish Warren to see a Dusky Warbler, a new British bird for me. Good views of a noisy, very active little bird, associating with up to 6 Chiffchaffs.

1995

A visit to Chew Valley Lake where there was a Peregrine, c12 Water Pipits, a sub-adult male White-headed Duck, a new British bird for me although at present not on the British list. Also c700 Ruddy Ducks, the usual ducks, gulls and grebes, a pair of Stonechats and 2 Sparrowhawks flying through the pre-roost flock of Starlings.

2013

Another visit to Chew Valley Lake where the Black-throated Diver was still on show.
