
On the 3rd February:
1980
A cold, wet and windy day, at Chew Valley Lake there were lots of winter ducks, including a Long-tailed Duck at Herriott's Bridge, on the Parkland was a Pink-footed Goose with the Canada Geese and the long staying Greater Sand Plover.
1985
A day trip to Weymouth, firstly visiting Radipole where apart from the commoner species we saw 7 Bearded Tits, 3 Cetti's Warblers and heard 2 more and a female Smew. From Sandsfoot Castle overlooking Portland Harbour we saw 6 Black-throated Divers, 10 Black-necked Grebes, lots of Red-breasted Mergansers, a Slavonian Grebe, 6 Razorbills and a Great Northern Diver. From the south side of the harbour there were 16 Goldeneyes and 7 Scaup. Continuing to Portland, from the bill were Kittiwakes, a Fulmar, 2 Guillemots, 2 Gannets and 28 Purple Sandpipers.
1990
In Tanzania in Ngorongoro Crater, just one new bird and one new mammal today.
Spent much of the early morning watching a pride of Lions kill and feed on an African Buffalo.

1993
In North Island New Zealand, all day on Kawau Island, 1 new bird seen today.
