On the 11th July:

1977

We spent the night in Abernethy Forest, in the morning on a walk near our camp site we saw Crested Tits, crossbills, a Cuckoo, 3 Ravens and at least 5 Treecreepers. Then we drove to nearby Loch Garten where there was a pair of Ospreys with 2 juveniles.

Later, we set off for Aberdeen, stopping at a pine wood along the A95, where we saw a male Brambling. In Aberdeen we boarded the overnight ferry to Lerwick, which departed for the Shetland Islands around 6pm.

We stayed on deck til about 9.30pm seeing lots of comic terns, c12 Sandwich Terns, c50 Kittiwakes, c30 Fulmars, 10 Gannets, c40 Guillemots, c20 Razorbills, 4 Great Skuas, 2 Arctic Skuas, 7 Puffins and 4 dolphin species.
