
On the 30th December:
1977
On holiday in Corsica, no new birds seen today.
1979
The day started at Southerness seeing a Barn Owl, an immature male Surf Scoter, a female Common Scoter, a Scaup, a Red-breasted Merganser, 14 Pink-footed Geese and lots of waders. Then in fields to the north there were 635 Pink-footed Geese, c1000 Barnacle Geese including 2 leucitic birds, c20 Golden Plovers and a Peregrine. At Carsethorn we saw 195+ Scaup, 125+ Pintail and lots of other duck and waders.
It was a better day with clear blue sky, sunny but still cold, we returned to Murray's Monument where there was an adult and an immature Golden Eagle, a Merlin, 2 Ravens and c20 Crossbills. Then we drove west to Loch Ryan seeing 231 Greylag Geese, 37 Curlew, c50 Eider, a male King Eider, 5 Red-breasted Mergansers and 4 Scaup. Later, we drove south to Torrs Warren to see the roost of Hen Harriers, we watched as 8 males, 4 females and an immature male came in.
