On the 29th August:

1976

A drive to Weymouth, at Radipole Lake there were a few ducks, warblers and 2 Bearded Tits with more calling. The best at Ferrybridge were 4 Sandwich Terns, then to Portland where we saw 30+ Corn Buntings, a Slow Worm, a Pied Flycatcher, a Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Wheatears, a Short-eared Owl, the Western Bonelli's Warbler again and 2 Ortolan Buntings.

On the way home we saw a Barn Owl at Tadham Moor, then at Cheddar Reservoir we saw the Buff-breasted Sandpiper again, a Curlew Sandpiper, a Little Stint,  3 Spotted Redshank and plenty of other common waders.

1977

A return to Chew Valley Lake seeing 6 Ruff, 2 Spotted Redshank, 6 Common and 12 Green Sandpipers, 10 Greenshank, a Dunlin, a Wood Sandpiper, c25 Snipe, 500+ Teal, 50+ Shoveler, a Wigeon, 3 Garganey, 25 Cormorants, a Kestrel, 3 Sparrowhawks, 3 Whinchats, a Yellow Wagtail, a Kingfisher, 3 Black Terns and a Little Gull.

1983

A visit to Cheddar Reservoir where we did see an immature Pectoral Sandpiper, also 7 Greenshank, 3 Ruff, a male Red-crested Pochard, a Whimbrel, 30+ Ringed Plovers, 40+ Snipe, a Green and at least 10 Common Sandpipers, a Little Stint, 40+ Dunlin, 150+ Lapwing and lots of other ducks.

On the way home we called in to Chew Valley Lake where the best were 2 Black Terns, a Common Tern, 2 Garganey, a Cuckoo and a Little Gull.

1996

On Cape Clear Island, where it was still clear and sunny, the most notable birds seen today were 13 Chough, 3 Ravens, 2 Peregrines, Hooded Crows and a Spotted Flycatcher. We did another evening boat trip seeing c100 Storm Petrels, c20 Manx Shearwaters and a Sooty Shearwater.

2011

A visit to Chew Valley Lake where there were 5 Little Egrets, 3 Ruff, 4 Greenshank, 2 Knot, a Curlew Sandpiper, a Dunlin, 24 Ringed Plovers, a Common Tern, c80 Great Crested Grebes and a male Ring-necked Duck.
