
On the 23rd September:
1979
A drive to Black Rocks in Cornwall to see a reported Lesser Kestrel, but it was foggy, cold and damp and the bird could not be found! Later we went to Stithians Reservoir where there were c50 Golden Plover, a Little Stint, a Curlew Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpipers and 8 Ringed Plovers.
1982
Leading a Wingspan tour to Turkey, no new birds seen today.
1983
Leading a Wingspan Tour to Western Turkey.
1984
A visit to Blagdon Lake where there were lots of duck and hirundines, also a Ruff, 2 Redshank, 3 Greenshank, 2 Spotted Redshank, lots of Lapwing, 5 Black-tailed Godwits, 7 Curlew Sandpipers, a Grey Phalarope, 2 Black Terns and an Arctic Tern. At Chew Valley Lake also lots of duck, and Great Crested Grebes, a few waders, the best being a Little Stint.
1988
1998
On a filming and sound recording trip to Zimbabwe, 2 new birds seen today.
2006
A visit to Severn Beach for the high tide wader roost, seeing c500 Dunlin and Ringed Plovers, 2 Little Stints and 5 Curlew Sandpipers.
Then, to Northwick Warth where there was a Pectoral Sandpiper, another Little Stint, 3 Ruff and a Wheatear.

2014
A return to the fields near Barrow Guerney where the juvenile Rose-coloured Starling was on view for around an hour, but on distant wires. Also seen were c60 Starlings, 2 Mistle Thrushes, 20+ Meadow Pipits and a Yellowhammer.
Then to Chew Valley Lake seeing 8 Little Egrets, a Great White Egret, a Common Sandpiper and lots of ducks and gulls.
From the lake to New Passage where there was a Pectoral Sandpiper, 3 Curlew Sandpipers, c200 Dunlin, 2 Knot, 100+ Black-tailed Godwits and 40+ Redshank.
